Akita Inu / Japanese Akita

Many centuries ago in the beautiful land of Japan a dog known as the Matagi-inu was the ideal companion for the hunter. But the beloved Japanese breed saw first hand man's attraction to fighting, first pitting dog against dog and soon nation against nation. From this sad history two Akita breeds emerged. The Akita Inu traces back to the true Matagi-inu, man's companion in the hunt.
